Motivation to pursue research

What was your intention or motivation to join a research program before you joined IIIT H? Interest,Aim and Purpose that made you pursue research program.

IIIT being research based institute, I heard people saying that we learn a lot in MS by Research than MTech.

How did you feel in your first semester when you have to select a lab and decide under which Prof. you have to work?

A bit tensed and confused at starting because I was open to all fields. But tried with the works assigned by professors which helped a lot to decide my lab.

What was your motivation behind staying in Academics rather than joining industry ?
In your opinion,what are the major differences between academics and industry?

For my MS I want to pursue some thing which is more than my regular BE because I was not satisfied from the knowledge I gained from my BE

Thesis

How did you choose your thesis area?And why did you choose that particular area?

In the process of doing my RA work, I was randomly reading papers about many areas, tried solving two to three problems simultaneously. In this process I came to the area I am interested in..

How did you narrow down to your search(for your thesis problem)to one particular problem?

By trying out various fields within my lab.. I started working on a related problem of my thesis at starting, but ended up with my thesis problem...

How was your experience w.r.t paper (or thesis) writing and do have any tips that will make paper (or thesis) writing process an easy one?

hehe :) quite a difficult question.. I don't have any tips start writing the procedure/ approach first in your paper then experiments then go for writing the introductory chapters which may make you interesting in writing the paper..

Suggestions to existing research students at IIIT H

What do you suggest for newly joined research students with regard to choosing lab and enrolling under a Prof. ?
What should students consider while choosing a lab and enrolling under a Prof. ?

If the student is very particular about lab and professor then nothing to suggest. If the student is very particular about the lab and want to choose the professor meet all the professors and know about their attitude towards working and choose the correct person who suits your attitude. If the student is open to all labs try reading various papers from all labs and try meeting seniors and know about their work which will help a lot..

What practices would you suggest for young research students at IIIT H?

be sure that you do your work !! nothing else matters !! don't worry about peer pressure or guides pressure or any other external aspects.. because you need to be working with high motivation to pursue MS degree.

How to resolve dilemma of either going for Ph.d or job? When a MS by research or dual degree is about finsih his programme?

Yes very much.. They do give a new direction to the problem or they do suggest the flaws in the approach that you choose.. They do help in writing your papers and in all other ways.. Its nice to have a very good working partner which will improve your quality of work and you will be motivated even to work.

What should be improved with regard to research culture at IIIT H ?Do suggest any change in structure of MS or Ph.d program?Why?

some mentors who know the subject well and are meant only for guiding people to write papers, thesis and meant for mentioning about conferences and their acceptance standards such that students will be convenient to write papers.

In your opinion, how does environment at IIIT H helps an individual in pursuing research? Anything like freedom do it your own way, weather, green campus, ...
Cool... IIIT environment is good to work..

How does research program at IIIT H helped in your overall growth as a responsible person(or citizen) of society(or India)?

IIIT has a very good culture to promote extra circular activities which makes a person confident in other activities also.. Moreover IIIT does have programs which will create general awareness, even through mails and research students have lots of time to attend them all :P. Hence, they grow as a complete person.

How was your overall experience w.r.t work culture of your centre?

awesome. Though I am a kind of irregular and non-punctual student I can make out doing some thing form lab.

Does discussions with fellow researchers in same centre helps? How does it help?
